Joe Momma's Coffee: "Momma's Cocoa"

Momma's Cocoa, 16oz
On the Avila Beach Pier (Avila Beach, CA)

AFTER A WEEK OF RAIN, my friend Bree (who will probably be mentioned every now and then on this blog) and I didn't want to waste the sunshine by staying indoors. We decided to drive up to Avila Beach and take a walk on the pier.

We stopped by Joe Momma's Coffee, a cafe located at 310 Front Street in front of the beach, before heading over to the pier. I've been to Joe Momma's Coffee a few times. Glancing in from outside, Joe Momma's Coffee appears to be a itty-bitty cafe with limited seating -- but it's actually bigger on the inside! There's a larger seating area upstairs, complete with couches and plush armchairs. It has wifi, but I personally have trouble focusing on work with its large windows providing such an enticing view of the beach. I go to Joe Momma's to chat, not to work.

Today I ordered "Momma's Cocoa" (160z) topped off with whipped cream for $3.75. Because we ordered our drinks to-go, there isn't much to say about the presentation. While Joe Momma's Coffee is known for their high-quality coffee and espresso, their cocoa was a disappointment. It was too watery and not chocolate-y enough for my tastes. A good cup of hot cocoa should be richer and have a stronger chocolate taste. Because of the quality (or lack thereof, in this case), it's really not worth its price.

I have enjoyed Joe Momma's smoothies in the past and my friends tell me their coffee is fantastic, but I wouldn't recommend their hot cocoa. They make so many other drinks, pass on the cocoa and try something else.
